Hacks for steady blood sugar control
On 02 April 2022 by Droobi
The change in your eating schedule will inevitably put you at higher risk of having too low blood sugar before breaking your fast or having a very high reading after your first meal.
The good news is that there are strategies you can practice to prevent a blood sugar spike.
Try these seven hacks during Ramadan to steady your blood sugar levels:
Eat in the right food order: Veggies first, protein and fat second, and starches and sugar last
Opt for whole fruits instead of dried fruits and juices.
Avoid having dessert as its own snack and have it directly after your savory meal.
Use your muscles for ten minutes after iftar: walk, run, take the stairs, wash the dishes… just make sure you’re moving!
Have a savory suhoor or pre fasting meal, not a sweet one. For example, choose eggs over jam and toast.
Before eating, have a glass of water with one tablespoon of vinegar.
Always pair your starches (crackers, potatoes, oats…) with protein, fat and fiber. Have a tablespoon of almond or peanut butter with an apple. Add a poached egg to your avocado toast. Add spinach and grilled chicken to your pasta.
Commit to doing one of these seven hacks this week, and then add another hack to your routine the following week. Having steady blood sugar levels is good for your health with or without Ramadan, so take these good habits with you!
